What is a Oarfish ?

Oarfish are deep sea creatures found at a depth of more than 1000m in Atlantic , Pacific and Mediterranean ocean. They usually prey on plankton, shrimp, small fish , jellyfish. Oarfish is characterized by a long tapering ribbon like body. The body is covered with silver shiny scales and no teeth visible. 

What does legend have to say about it ?

 The oarfish better nicknamed in Japanese culture as "Ryugu no tsukai" which translates to the messenger of sea god. According to legends the surfacing of this deep sea creature is the sign of a future catastrophic event. Better known as doomsday fish this very rare sea creature has a great significance in the folklore of Japanese culture. The belief was popularized when in 2011 a large number of oarfish was sighted on the beach of Japan , months before the tragic Tohoku earthquake and tsunami of 9 on the scale , hit the country resulting large scale fatalities.

How is this incident relevant in today's time ?

It's 2025 and the world is going through a tough time in all corner. It's 3 years to Russia Ukraine war .

Israel has ceased fire in Gaza but after the blasts in Tel Aviv it's high chances that Israel is planning for another full blow military operation in west bank. And this time Israel will have a unlimited resource flow. The US is all out to support Israel in it's military operation. This would further involve Iran's involvement in the region.

Trump is all set to start trade war with China and impose heavy tariffs on rest countries enjoying US market. This would led to a major shift in geopolitics.

Other than that there is a crisis in the Indian subcontinent of Bangladesh , where the elected PM was thrown out and a puppet govt on behalf of the then US govt took over. Since then, cold blooded footages of Hindu genocide in Bangladesh is being normalized in Bangladesh when the puppet govt sit hand on hand giving excuses of political differences. 

Donald Trump led US govt is less of a govt and more of a business hereby to make profits and distance itself from unnecessary conflicts. Trump has made up his mind to put and end to the Russian Ukraine war and that too without inviting Ukraine on the table. This may be a great news for global peace but the whole of Europe and Ukraine are surprised and confused about their security challenges during Trump's term. US constantly questions the returns they get by ensuring the security dynamics of Europe  on US taxpayers cost. Europe which previously barely spends anything on defense is looking forward to aggressively built their own NATO like group against Russia. On the contrary US threatens Europe to sanction 25% tariffs which is not a great news. This brings Europe - "the garden of the world" to be left with a very limited available options to fulfil their needs. It needs to be seen if Europe agrees to sign a trade deal with India which will be on our conditions. 

Also the climate change is a major rising challenge needs to be addressed by the developing countries.

What does the science have to say on the surfacing of Oarfish ?

Science is backed by facts and logic where speculations and folklore has no space. But even in this case the science is divided with opinions. While according to some group of scientists , these deep sea creatures being close to fault lines in tectonic plates are more sensible to the underwater seismic activity. 

While another group of scientists sees it as pure coincidence and the increasing water pollution is the reason for rise in number of deaths of Oarfish and concludes no relationship between oarfish sighting and any devastation.
